We sell through authorized Segway dealers worldwide.

It is important that the dealer work with the customer and make sure they try before they buy.

We provide interested international dealers with the first unit with a complete set of four springs sets at the same cost as a standard retail unit.

We will take orders from those dealers and ship units equipped with the correct Shock Spring Assembly for dealers to mount on their customer’s Segways.

The customer is responsible for shipping and tariffs.

We have designed the packaging to minimize shipping costs, and to comply with regulations requiring recyclable packaging materials.

The SegSaddle package ships as 18 in x 17 in x 9 inches and 22 pounds. (21.7 actual lbs.) (450 mm x 430 mm x 220 mm and 9.7 kg)

Our preferred shipping method is Federal Express - in our experience they handle customs much more efficiently. We'll be happy to quote FedEx shipping which should range from $200 to $250 for 2 to 3 day service.

The lowest cost shipping we have identified is US Postal Service International service which will run about $50 to $100 less than FedEx, however, we've had up to a month of delay at customs when using this service.

We will accept payment from international dealers via PayPal or bank wire transfer.

What is the Price of the SegSaddle?

United States:

The suggested retail price for the SegSaddle is $1,350 FOB San Antonio Texas, i.e. the customer is responsible for shipping from San Antonio. In the US FedEx Ground will be about $25 which is our preferred way of shipping. UPS ground is available on request.

There is a $25 discount for each pair of standard Segway mats that are returned to SegSaddle for modification for future customers. There is a limit of 4 pair per unit ordered.

International:

As of March 15, 2011 the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) provides for "other power-driven mobility devices", and specifically calls out the Segway® as an example.

Wheelchairs and Other Power-Driven Mobility Devices
People with mobility, circulatory, or respiratory disabilities use a variety of devices for mobility. Some use walkers, canes, crutches, or braces while others use manually-operated or power wheelchairs, all of which are primarily designed for use by people with disabilities. Businesses must allow people with disabilities to use these devices in all areas where customers are allowed to go.
Advances in technology have given rise to new power-driven devices that are not necessarily designed for people with disabilities, but are being used by some people with disabilities for mobility. The term other power-driven mobility devices is used in the revised ADA regulations to refer to any mobility device powered by batteries, fuel, or other engines, whether or not they are designed primarily for use by individuals with mobility disabilities for the purpose of locomotion. Such devices include Segways®, golf cars, and other devices designed to operate in non-pedestrian areas. Public accommodations must allow individuals who use these devices to enter their premises unless the business can demonstrate that the particular type of device cannot be accommodated because of legitimate safety requirements. Such safety requirements must be based on actual risks, not on speculation or stereotypes about a particular class of devices or how they will be operated by individuals using them.

Devices categorized as wheelchairs must be permitted.

Businesses must consider these factors in determining whether reasonable modifications can be made to admit other power-driven mobility devices to their premises:

The type, size, weight, dimensions, and speed of the device;
The business's volume of pedestrian traffic (which may vary at different times of the day, week, month, or year);
The business's design and operational characteristics, such as its square footage, whether it is indoors or outdoors, its placement of stationery equipment or devices or furniture, and whether it has storage space for the device if requested by the customer;
Whether legitimate safety standards can be established to permit the safe operation of the device; and
Whether the use of the device creates a substantial risk of serious harm to the environment or natural or cultural resources or poses a conflict with Federal land management laws and regulations.

Using these assessment factors, a business may decide that it can allow devices like Segways® in its facilities, but cannot allow the use of golf cars in the same facility. It is likely that many businesses will allow the use of Segways® generally, although some may decide to exclude them during their busiest hours or on particular shopping days when pedestrian traffic is particularly dense. Businesses are encouraged to develop written policies specifying when other power-driven mobility devices will be permitted on their premises and to communicate those policies to the public.
Businesses may ask individuals using an other power-driven mobility device for a credible assurance that the device is required because of a disability. An assurance may include, but does not require, a valid State disability parking placard or other Federal or State-issued proof of disability. A verbal assurance from the individual with a disability that is not contradicted by your observation is also considered a credible assurance. It is not permissible to ask individuals about their disabilities.

We will ship a unit on a "customer approval" basis in the USA, that is, we ship at no charge and if the customer approves, and purchases the SegSaddle we invoice the dealer. If the customer does not approve, as ask that the unit be returned to us via FedEx ground which costs about $25 in the USA.

We take orders from dealers and ship units equipped with the correct Shock Spring Assembly for dealers to mount on their customer’s Segways.

If you do not have a dealer we will help you find a dealer who will work with you.

Are Replacement Seats Available?

Yes. The Seat is a “wear item” - that is - it will wear out over time.

The seat can be removed and replaced by the owner with the enclosed 4 mm and 5 mm Allen wrenches and a Phillips screwdriver.

Replacement seats are available for US $100.

What if I want a Custom SegSaddle Spring?

Custom, made to order, SegSaddle Springs are available for $75 each. There is no extra charge if they are ordered as part of a SegSaddle that will be shipped from SegSaddle to your dealer.

We can custom fit a SegSaddle Spring to the riders weight and riding style. We only have 1.1 inches of travel in the suspension system so we will need your accurate weight.

When the SegSaddle Spring is custom set to Firm, a rider of the targeted weight can drop off a 6 inch curb without bottoming out the suspension, and there will be no "give" when the rider just sits on the SegSaddle.

When the the SegSaddle Spring is custom set to Soft, a rider of the targeted weight will drop a bit when the rider just sits on the SegSaddle - this makes riding over sidewalk cracks more comfortable. With a custom SegSaddle Spring the rider can also drop off a 6 inch curb without bottoming out the suspension. We recommend a soft setting for most customers unless you know you'll be doing a lot of heavy outdoor riding.

The Standard SegSaddle Spring Sets we provide to dealers are set to Firm in the range marked on the shock. If you want a softer ride, ask your dealer for the next softer SegSaddle Spring to see how that feels, or request a custom SegSaddle Spring when you order.

Custom SegSaddle Springs are available for riders between 90 to 265 pounds (40 to 120 kg). They cover roughly a 15% range about the target weight, i.e. a spring optimized for a 200 lb rider is ok for riders between 170 and 230 pounds.

Standard SegSaddle Spring Set Sizes:

Small- for riders between 100 and 129 lbs or 45 to 58 kg (Red Spring)

Medium - for riders between 130 and 169 lbs or 59 to 76 kg (Yellow Spring)

Large - for riders between 170 and 219 lbs or 77 to 99 kg (Green Spring)

XLarge - for riders between 220 and 265 lbs or 100 to 120 kg (Blue Spring)

What Weight Range Will the SegSaddle Support?

The SegSaddle will support riders from 100 to 265 lbs - the same weight range as the Segway PT®.

Dealers may have a set of Standard SegSaddle Springs which provide firm suspension to riders in the designated weight range.

Standard SegSaddle Spring Sizes:

Small- for riders between 100 and 129 lbs or 45 to 58 kg (Red Spring)

Medium - for riders between 130 and 169 lbs or 59 to 76 kg (Yellow Spring)

Large - for riders between 170 and 219 lbs or 77 to 99 kg (Green Spring)

XLarge - for riders between 220 and 265 lbs or 100 to 120 kg (Blue Spring)

Firm means there will be no "give" when the rider just sits on the SegSaddle. If there is a little give, the ride will be smoother over city sidewalks with cracks and bumps.

Can I keep my Comfort Mats? Only if we modify them!

Do NOT modify your Comfort Mats to fit the SegSaddle yourself!

We carefully shape the mats to fit around the SegSaddle to make sure that the Segway works correctly and that there isn't any interference with the Segway's Rider Detect Sensors.

The big concern is that when you get off the Segway, improperly modified mats will hold the Segway's Rider Detect Sensors down, making the Segway function as if you were still on it. This is a serious safety problem. It will also prevent you from powering down the Segway.

SegSaddle LLC's process of trimming the standard Segway Mats involves a NC Milling of the mats in order to get the best fit and finish - and to ensure that the Rider Detect sensors function properly. These tools and templates are not something a Segway dealer has in the shop.

We warn our dealers to not modify Comfort Mats to fit the SegSaddle because of the potential for a serious safety hazard.

Our recommendation to SegSaddle customers is to use the standard mats which we have modified and provide with the unit. After all, why do you need a comfort mat if you have a SegSaddle? (It looks cool, we know...)

If you still insist on using the Comfort Mats, you must send them to us to be modified correctly - so we can ensure that they don't compromise the Rider Detect Sensor function of the Segway. You are responsible for shipping costs each way and we charge $25 for mat trimming.

If you want to order a SegSaddle with Comfort Mats we can provide them with the SegSaddle for an additional $100.

How difficult is it to install a SegSaddle?

Mounting a SegSaddle Frame takes about 10 minutes with the right tools. The SegSaddle comes with the required tools in a small, labeled, zip-lock bag.

A Torx 25 wrench, a 4 mm Allen wrench and a 5 mm Allen wrench are included in the box together with the 4 mounting screws.

All rider adjustments on the SegSaddle can be made with the 4 mm Allen wrench.

The seat can be removed with both the 4mm and 5mm Allen wrenches. Note that the 5 mm wrench can also be used to remove the Lean Steer Frame from the Segway.

The included metric wrenches are blue - to help you identify them later.
